Food culture influence

Yesterday I read the two articles: “Home Run”, which is written by Roy Ahn, and “Eating White” wrote by Nicholson. After reading these two articles, I found some special intimate relationship between them. First, both of these two articles are using the first person perspective to write a topic with food. Second, these two authors write their experiences about according to their countries’ cultures and families’ effects. To be more specific, such as the article “Home Run”, the author has episodic memory with his mother. Because his mother is a Korean and always cooked the Korean food for the author, he is accustomed to eating Korean food even though he never lived in Korea. After his mother past away, the author thinks both his mother and the Korean food are keep away from his opinion because he is not good at cooking Korean food. Eventually, he found both his wife and child are in fond of Korean food very much; therefore, he decided to cook the Korean food for them. I believe one thing more significant is that although his family is not living in Korea, he still would like to replace his mom’s position and make the culture spread to others.

About the second reading, the author Nicholson talks about the white food, which is monotonous and tasteless. But after reading this article, it makes me feel the white food has some profound meanings. Same as the first article, the Nicholson’s eating habits also has a strong connection with his mother. He uses the comfort food to describe his mom. The comfort food is the food that makes people feel relax and dependable, the white food is a significant one of the kind. Based on the author’s description, his mom was a Catholic, so his mom believe the white food stands for pure, although it is just is cheese sandwich with a glass of cold milk. Maybe these foods cannot take the nutrition to us, but it is represent the personal belief. Like the author’s mom, eating white food always bring the happiness. So it has become the author’s habit.

As for me, both I and my parent are from Beijing of china, my mom is very good at cooking Chinese food. In my opinion, the most delicious food is made by my mom. I am not sure that is because I am living and studying in American, but I am sure all most American food is very terrible for me.

The Last time eat Chinese Food In Spring Break

The last meal I had eaten the dinner at last night. Because today is the beginning of the spring quarter, and today we should eat in university cafeteria, everyone knows that is terrible. So I decided to eat Chinese food with my Chinese friend QiuYu. That Chinese restaurant is called Jason’s Thai, which is near by the English language center. Actually it is not the best place to eat Chinese food in Denver, but it is only take ten minutes’ walk to there. Also, every time we would like to walk to there and eat at there because we think eating food in restaurant is fresher and more delicious than delivery. We ordered some Chinese food, such us Lemongrass Chicken, Tropical Fried Rice, Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Coconut Soup and some snacks. To talk about the food, the tempuras are my favorite food in there, actually tempura is the Japanese method of deep-frying, which began in some European countries. There are some shrimps and vegetables, with arranged tempura on a plate and served with the sauce. Also the sauce is very delicious; the dipping sauce comes in many flavors, is depends on what flavors the guests like best. As for me, I like the sauce which is a little bit sweet.
Here is the Jason's Thai address, I really recommend this restaurant: 2022 S. University Blvd, Denver, CO 80210
